Ever wanted to look at a kidney stone up close and personal?
Me neither.
Problem is, I'm so good at making them. And I can't help but point a macro lens at them and see what my freshly birthed concentrated oxalate waste looks like.
Calcium oxalate Stones
There's a variety of reasons your body will accumulate chemicals that end up crystalizing and testing your pain threshold as if you're prepping for eternal damnation. Some more rare than others. There's also a variety of types of stones. All worth researching further if you're working with a urologist to avoid them.
Uric acid Struvite Cystine
Oxalates are found in leafy green vegetables, like spinach and kale, and are amongst a long list of healthy foods that one wouldn't normally try to deter you from eating. Nuts, beets, swiss chard, Miso also make the list as high-oxalate foods. Calcium and oxalates find each other in the stomach, intestines and kidneys and will form crystals when dehydrated enough.
Increasing your calcium to help it partner up with oxalates in your stomach or intestines can help prevent the formation of stones. In addition to limiting to your consumption of high-oxalate foods.
